PORTRAIT STUDY

2011 - ongoing

Portrait Study is an ongoing photo project, which takes a closer look at the genre of portraiture with a focus on representation. Each picture stages objects instead of persons, which moves the focus from an individual face or body towards other aspects of the genre. In addition to depicting the specifics of an individual, portraiture usually represents people’s status; for example: class, social/living conditions and culture. Portaits often capture time-specific conventions of posture and body language (since we rarely see the portrayed person in a „natural“ situation or position). It is these side aspects of portraiture, which are in the focus of the series.
